The San Juan minaret of Cordoba

The "Monasterio de San Jerónimo" ("San Jerónimo" Monastery, from the 15th century) is located opposite the amazing "Medina Azahara", sheltered by the mountains of Cordoba, and surrounded by the autochthonous vegetation.

The "Monasterio de San Jerónimo de Valparaíso" ("San Jerónimo of Valparaíso" Monastery) is the first Gothic style construction of Cordoba.

Founded after the arrival of some monks, most of them coming from Portugal, and with the help of "Inés de Pontevedra" and her son, the Lord Mayor of "los Donceles", "Martín Fernández", they established this monastery on the slopes of "Sierra Morena", near "Medina Azahara".

On November 21st of 1980, it was declared site of cultural interest.
